GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University head women's wrestling coach Travis Mercado announced the signing of Colorado native Tristan Kelly to a letter of intent.

"Tristan is one of the country's top recruits this year and being from Colorado, she was a must have girl for our program," coach Mercado said.

Kelly is a two-time Colorado state champion wrestling for Douglas County High School and went 26-0 at 161 pounds as a senior. The Erie, Colo. dealt Vista Ridge senior Bella Mitchell her only two losses of the season, once in the region finals and once in the state championship match, an 11-2 major decision.

"To say that I am excited to have Tristan Kelly joining our program is an understatement. Tristan coming to Colorado Mesa University shows the potential and trajectory of our program for the coming years," Mercado added. "She believes that Colorado Mesa University is not only a best fit for her education but also a best fit for her growth and development to help her accomplish the high goals that she has for herself."

Kelly hasn't just dominated on the state level but the national and international level as well. Tristan is a cadet world team member as well as a cadet and junior Fargo champion. She won the 2019 Cadet Pan American Games and a member of the USA Junior National Team.

Colorado Mesa is coming off their second complete season as a sanctioned program. The Mavericks placed fourth as a team at the WCWC National Championships and came away with seven all-Americans.

The complete recruiting list will be released later this month.

Editor’s Note: Tristan Kelly is ranked No. 2 at 164 pounds in the most recent National Girls High School rankings and is considered one of the top recruits in the nation.
