NC State repeats as ACC champions with Camacho, Hilday winning titles; Pitt takes second

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – NC State repeated as ACC champions on Sunday, with two individual champions and four runners-up at the University of Pittsburgh on Sunday.


A big boost for the Wolfpack came at 125, when Jakob Camacho upset returning ACC champion and 2019 NCAA runner-up Jack Mueller of Virginia, 11-4 in the finals.


Repeating as an ACC champion was Hayden Hidlay (157), who scored a 13-4 major decision over Taleb Rahmani of Pitt in the finals.


Wolfpack wrestlers who finished second were Tariq Wilson (141), Daniel Bullard (174), Trent Hidlay (184) and Deonte Wilson (285).


It was NC State's third ACC title in the last five season and the 17th all-time in school history.


Host Pitt placed second, only four points behind NC State.Pitt’s Mickey Phillipi (133) and Demetrius Thomas (285) repeated as ACC champions. They were joined by teammate Jake Wentzel (165) on champion row. Wentzel was a No. 4 seed who beat No. 1 and No. 3 seeds to win.


Joining Pitt with three individual champions was North Carolina, which placed third. Tarheel champions were Zachary Sherman (141), Austin O`Connor (149) and Clay Lautt (174).


Other champions were Hunter Bolen of Virginia Tech (184) and Jay Aiello of Virginia (197).


The ACC has 38 automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Championships.
