Lehigh leads EIWA team race putting five wrestlers into the finals

Bethlehem Pa. – After the semifinal session of the EIWA Championship, Lehigh is in the lead and in a good position to bring home their third-straight EIWA title. Currently, Lehigh is ahead of the field with 130 points with Cornell in second with 100, Princeton in third with 87 and Navy in fourth with 86.

Lehigh will have five wrestlers competing for titles including Nick Farro at 133 pounds, Josh Humphreys at 157 pounds, Jordan Kutler at 174 pounds, Chris Weiler at 184 pounds and Jordan Wood at 285 pounds.

Cornell, Princeton and Navy all punched through three finalists. Cornell will be represented by Chas Tucker at 133 pounds, Hunter Richard at 149 pounds and Ben Darmstadt at 197 pounds. Princeton’s finalists are Pat Glory at 125 pounds, Matt Kolodzik at 149 pounds and Quincy Monday at 157 pounds. The three Midshipmen to make the finals were Cody Trybus at 141 pounds, Tanner Skidgel at 165 pounds and Spencer Carey at 174 pounds.

Every wrestler that made the finals has earned a berth to the NCAA tournament.

Bucknell and Columbia earned two finalists a piece. Bucknell’s qualifiers came at 165 pounds and 197 pounds, where Zachary Hartman and Drew Phipps earned their NCAA berths with semifinal victories. Joe Manchio at 125 pounds and Matt Kazimir at 141 pounds are Columbia’s finalists.

Other wrestlers to make the finals were Binghamton’s Lou DePrez at 184 pounds and Harvard’s Yaraslau Slavikouski at 285 pounds.

At 125 pounds, top seeded Pat Glory looked dominant throughout the tournament, earning a technical fall and two major decisions on his way to the finals. In the semifinals, he defeated Army’s Trey Chalifoux, 12-1. His opponent, Joe Manchio defeated Cornell’s Dominic LaJoie, 9-7, in the semifinals.

No. 1 seed at 133 pounds, Chas Tucker advanced to the finals with a comfortable, 8-2, decision over Navy’s Casey Cobb. On the other side of the bracket, Nick Farro defeated the No. 2 seed Zach Trampe of Binghamton in sudden victory, 4-2.

At 141 pounds, Cody Trybus, who was seeded fourth, defeated No. 8 seed Anthony Sparacio of Binghamton, 8-4, in the semifinals. No. 3 seed Matt Kazimir took out No. 7 seed Ryan Pomrinca of Lehigh, 9-2, in the other semifinal.

Three-time All-American Matt Kolodzik of Princeton kept rolling at 149 pounds with a 6-0 decision over top seeded Kizhan Clarke of American. His opponent, No. 3 seed Hunter Richard defeated No. 2 seed Jimmy Hoffman of Lehigh, 7-5.

No. 1 seed Quincy Monday cruised to a, 12-2, victory in the 157 pound semifinals over No. 4 seed Parker Kropman of Drexel. His opponent in the finals, Josh Humphreys won his semifinal match, 8-2, over Markus Hartman of Army

Top-seeded Tanner Skidgel won a tight, 1-0, match over Cael McCormick of Army to punch his ticket to the 165 pound finals. He will see No. 3 seed Zachary Hartman, who defeated No. 2 seed Philip Conigliaro of Harvard, 8-6, in his semifinal.

At 174 pounds, No. 1 seed Jordan Kutler won a controlled, 4-0, match over No. 5 seed Michael O’Malley of Drexel. No. 2 seed Spencer Carey earned his finals berth with a, 5-2, decision over No. 3 seed Ben Harvey of Army.

Lou DePrez hung on to defeat No. 4 seed Tanner Harvey of American in the 184 pound semifinals, 3-2, while Chris Weiler earned a victory over No. 3 seed Noah Stewart of Army, 8-6, in the other half of the bracket.

No. 5 seed Drew Phipps of Bucknell knocked off top seeded returning All-American Pat Brucki of Princeton, 7-4. In the 197 pound finals he will face No. 2 seed Ben Darmstadt of Cornell. Darmstadt defeated No. 6 J.T. Brown of Army, 6-1, in his semifinal.

Top seeded freshman Yaraslau Slavikouski earned a trip to the 285 pound finals of his first EIWA tournament with a, 3-1, decision over No. 4 seed Zachary Knighton-Ward of Hofstra. There he will face returning All-American No. 3 seed Jordan Wood. In his semifinal, Wood earned a decisive, 7-0, victory over Cornell’s No. 7 seed Brendan Furman.

The finals will begin after the end of the consolation medal matches and can be streamed live on Flowrestling.
