Tricia Saunders is one of the pioneers of women’s wrestling and a legend of the sport. The first U.S. woman to win a World title, Saunders’ career spanned nearly a decade from the early 1990s to the early 2000s. When she retired, Saunders was a seven-time World Team member, a four-time World champion and a one-time World runner-up.
In 1998, Saunders returned to the mat after a year-long hiatus from competition due to knee surgery and having a baby. Her return was dominant, as she won the 1998 U.S. Open and went on to claim another World title.
