Army and Marines both go 2-0, setting up a finals showdown in freestyle at Armed Forces Championships

Bremerton, Wash. – The U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps finished with perfect 2-0 records, setting up a championship match this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. PT at the 2020 Armed Forces Greco-Roman Championships, held at Naval Base Kitsap.
The Army opened with a 41-7 win over the Navy, winning all nine contested bouts. Included were four pins and five technical falls.
Their second round victory was 31-14 over the Air Force, with wins in eight of the 10 bouts. The Army had six technical falls and two pins along the way.
SPC Jacob Mitchell of the Army, who has won the last two Armed Forces gold medals in freestyle, won both of his matches by pin at 125 kg.
The Marines also won a pair of bouts. They opened with a 31-13 win over the Air Force, breaking open a close battle by winning the five highest weight classes to close out the victory. When it was over, the Marines had six technical falls and a pin in the dual meet.
The second round featured a 43-2 victory by the Marines over the Navy, winning all nine of the matches contested. There were seven technical falls and two pins by the All-Marine team.
The Army is seeking its 19th straight Armed Forces freestyle title. On Saturday, the Army extended its Greco-Roman championship win streak to 19 years with a 21-20 win over the Marines in the finals dual meet.
Five of the 2020 Armed Forces Greco-Roman champions are also in the freestyle division, and are seeking a “double title” by adding the freestyle gold. They are Marine Corps wrestlers Sgt. Raymond Bunker (70 kg), SSgt. John Stefanowicz (86 kg) and Capt. Daniel Miller (125 kg), as well as Army wrestlers SGT Vladyslav Dombrovskiy (79 kg) and SGT Lucas Sheridan (97 kg).
