No. 20 Campbell tops Chattanooga 26-11 to remain unbeaten in SoCon

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – No. 20 Campbell remained unbeaten in Southern Conference action with a 26-11 win over visiting Chattanooga, 26-11, Saturday inside Carter Gym.
Campbell moved to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in SoCon matches with its sixth straight dual win, while UTC dips to 5-9 on the year and 3-2 in conference outings.
Up 12-7 heading to the 157 pound match, CU claimed four straight decisions, starting with Matthew Dallara’s 14-7 win over Tyler Shilson, followed by a 9-3 victory for No. 17 Quentin Perez over Drew Nicholson. Austin Kraisser at 174 and No. 6 Andrew Morgan at 184 extended the CU lead to 21-7 with shutout decisions over Hunter Fortner and No. 14 Matthew Waddell, respectively, securing the win for the Camels.
At heavyweight, No. 14 Jere Heino punctuated the victory with a 16-0 tech fall, giving the match its 26-11 final score.
No. 9 Noah Gonser (133 pounds) registered his fourth pin in as many SoCon matches, topping UTC’s Wade Cummings (4:26), and No. 10 Josh Heil defeated Mason Wallace 5-4 at 141 to remain undefeated in conference bouts.
Six Camels are now at least 3-0 in SoCon action, including Gonser (4-0), Heil (3-0), Perez (4-0), Austin Kraisser (4-0), Morgan (3-0) and Heino (4-0).
No. 23 Tanner Smith (149 pounds) and Rodney Jones (197) picked up major decisions for the Mocs, while No. 17 Fabian Gutierrez (125) earned a decision in extra time.
The Camels will wrap up their 2019-20 home schedule on February 13, hosting Appalachian State.
