USA Wrestling has announced that the Special Wrestle-off for the 92 kg spot on the 2019 U.S. U23 World Team between U23 World Team Trials champion Jake Woodley (Pittsburgh, Pa./OKRTC) and 2019 Final X runner-up Bo Nickal (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) will be held on Tuesday, July 16 in Fargo, N.D.
The best-of-three series will take place at the U.S. Marine Corps Cadet and Junior Nationals, during the Junior men’s freestyle finals at 1 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on FloWrestling.
Nickal requested the wrestle-off against Woodley, meeting all the requirements needed to receive a delay based on the U23 World Team Trials procedures.
A three-time NCAA champion for Penn State, Nickal won the 2019 Senior U.S. Open and the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament to advance to Final X: Rutgers. There, he fell to 2018 World champion J’den Cox in two matches.
Woodley, a student-athlete at the University of Oklahoma, won the U23 World Team Trials in June with a fantastic performance. More recently, he won a gold medal at the Junior Pan American Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
The winner of this Special Wrestle-off will represent the United States at the 2019 U23 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Oct. 28-Nov. 2.
