FORT WORTH, Texas – Alyssa Lampe of the Sunkist Kids made a triumphant return to women’s wrestling, winning her fourth Senior Nationals title after more than three years away from the sport.

Seeded third coming in, Lampe capped off a strong performance with a come-from-behind pin over No. 1 seed Victoria Anthony of the Sunkist Kids in 3:44. Lampe scored the first takedown, but Anthony came back with six straight points to lead 6-2 at the break on a pair of takedowns and two stepouts. In the second period, Lampe closed the gap to 6-4 with a takedown. From the top, Lampe ran a powerful half-nelson to turn and pin Anthony.

Lampe and Anthony had a long rivalry before Lampe’s break from the sport. Lampe has won two World bronze medals, while Anthony has placed fifth in the Senior Worlds two times.

Lampe moved to Vermont, where she is coached by former Sunkist Kids teammate Erin Clodgo, and works out with members of the men’s wrestling team at Norwich University. Her first event back in the sport came

Lampe’s victory came in one of three women’s freestyle weights which concluded on Saturday at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Winning their first career Senior Nationals titles were Dominique Parrish of the Sunkist Kids at 53 kg and Abigail Nette of the Tiger WC at 57 kg.

Seeded first, Parrish scored three first period takedowns and finished off a 6-2 victory over second-seeded Areana Villaescusa of the U.S. Army. Both athletes have made the move down from 55 kg, a non-Olympic weight, to compete at 53 kg for the Olympic year ahead.

At the 2019 U.S. Open at 55 kg, Villaescusa beat Parrish in a 5-5 criteria decision, but Parrish beat her in a best-of-three series at the 2019 U23 World Team Trials.

Nette, She defeated the No. 9 seed Tiana Jackson of the Menlo WC, a 2019 NAIA champion, 9-6. This was their first meeting.

Nette scored the first six points of the match and led 6-2 at the break. But Jackson battled back in the second period with a pair of takedowns, and was ahead on criteria with the bout tied at 6-6 as time was running down. Nette broke the tie with a reversal and scored two last-second exposure points to win the bout, 9-6.

Nette was a 2019 WCWA national champion for Emmanuel College, and is now competing in college for Campbellsville University.

The top five placewinners in each weight earned a berth in the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Penn State in April..
