FORT WORTH, Texas – The finals in the first three women’s freestyle weight classes for the Senior Nationals have been determined, with some veteran stars and a few bright new faces.

The 50 kg finals will feature long-time rivals and past World Team members, as No 1 seed Victoria Anthony of the Sunkist Kids will battle No. 3 seed Alyssa Lampe of the Sunkist Kids.

Lampe, a two-time World bronze medalist, was competing in her first major domestic competition since the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Lampe finished off a strong day with a 10-0 technical fall over No. 2 Amy Fearnside of the Titan Mercury WC in the semifinals. Included were a pair of four-point takedowns, with Lampe driving Fearnside to her back from the feet.

Anthony won a tight 2-0 decision over 2018 Cadet World champion Emily Shilson of the Titan Mercury WC in her semifinals.

The bright newcomer to the Senior freestyle scene is No. 9 seed Tiana Jackson of the Menlo WC, a 2019 NAIA champion. Jackson defeated past Senior National Team member and No. 5 seed Shauna Kemp of the Titan Mercury WC, 8-2. Jackson opened up her offense in the second period. Kemp is the women’s head coach at Jamestown.

Jackson beat another higher seed, No. 8 Gabrielle Weyhrich of McKendree Bearcat WC in the round of 16 by fall, and ended up with four wins on the day.

Her finals opponent is No. 3 Abigail Nette of the Tiger WC, who scored a close 11-9 comeback win over No. 7 Cameron Guerin. Nette was seventh in the 2019 U23 Worlds.

The top seed at 53 kg, Dominique Parrish of the Sunkist Kids, will battle No. 2 seed Areana Villaescusa of Army WCAP in the finals. Parrish, a three-time U23 World Team member, has moved down from the 55 kg non-Olympic weight class. She beat No. 4 seed Alisha Howk of the Sunkist Kids in the semifinals in a 10-0 technical fall. Parrish won all four of her bouts by technical fall, outscoring the competition 40-0.

Villaescusa won a close 4-4 criteria decision over No. 3 seed Katherine Shai of the Titan Mercury WC. It was a much closer match than their recent battle at the Bill Farrell International in November, a 10-0 technical fall win by Villaescusa.

By reaching the finals, the athletes have guaranteed themselves a top two finish and a berth in the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Penn State in April. The top five placewinners from this tournament qualify to compete at the Trials. There were four new Olympic Team Trials qualifiers, as Anthony and Villaescusa had already qualified for the Olympic Trials through other qualifying standards.

The gold-medal finals in these three women’s freestyle weight classes will be held on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. All of the action at the Senior Nationals is broadcast live on Flowrestling.
