Gantt, McCall place seventh as Wolfpack RTC athletes compete in Miner’s Glory International in Russia

KEMEROVO, Russia – Three Senior men’s freestyle athletes who train with the Wolfpack RTC, based at North Carolina State, competed this past weekend at the Miner’s Glory International.
Winning his first two bouts and going on to place seventh at 74 kg was former NC State All-American Thomas Gantt.
He opened with a victory over Constant Korolev of Russia, then stopped Jakub Sykora of Slovakia. In the quarterfinals, he fell to Ertine Mortuy-Ool of Russia. When Mortuy-Ool was defeated semifinals, Gantt was not eligible for repechage.
It is the second straight year Gantt has wrestled in this tournament, winning a bronze at the Miner’s Fame event in 2017 at 70 kg. In March of 2018, Gantt won a gold medal at the Bill Farrell International in New York City.
Also competing at 92 kg was Tim McCall, who dropped his only bout to Lambert Haronov of Russia, who did not reach the finals, knocking McCall out of the event. McCall finished seventh in the final standings. McCall was fifth at the Miner’s Glory International in 2017 at 97 kg.
At 79 kg, Lee Davis lost his opening match to 2017 World bronze medalist Ali Shabanov of Belarus, who went on to reach the finals, pulling Davis back into repechage. He was defeated by 2018 World Military champion Magomed Ramazanov of Russia and did not advance.
