USA wins Pan American U15 Greco-Roman title, with six gold medals and four silver medals

The Pan American U15 Greco-Roman champions from the United States pose together on the podium with their first-place team trophy.
VILLAHERMOSA, Mexico – The USA Pan American U15 Greco-Roman team claimed the team title on Thursday, led by six individual champions and four silver medalists.
Claiming gold medals for Team USA with undefeated records were Kael Lauridsen of Omaha, Neb. (38 kg), Marc-Anthony McGowan of Tampa, Fla. (41 kg), Clarence Moore of Rancho Cordova, Calif. (44 kg), Brennan Van Hoecke of Fort Meyers, Fla. (48 kg), Brock Bobzien of Ramona, Calif. (52 kg) and Quentin Saunders of Wichita, Kan. (85 kg).
Capturing silver medals, with only one loss in their weight class, were Jadon Skellenger of Meridian, Idaho (57 kg) , Drake Buchanan of Greenwood, Ind. (62 kg), Nicholas Hall of Dover, Del. (68 kg) and Ashton Davis of Cleveland, Tenn. (75 kg)
The USA captured the team title, with host Mexico in second place and Peru in third place.
“For some of these young guys, this was their first international competition, and early on, you could tell. But after everyone’s first match, you could see all the butterflies and nerves shake off, and all of their true talent showed up. We dominated every match after the first round, going 10-0 in our final 10 bouts, with eight by pin or technical fall. This guaranteed us the Greco-Roman team championship. The kids picked each other up, and you can tell they are so excited to compete together as a team and represent USA Wrestling,” said U.S. coach Christopher Ramos.
The U.S. coaches were Ramos, who is from Clearwater, Fla. and Roberto Dixon of Marina, Calif. The Medical staff member is Elizabeth Del Re of Allentown, Pa. The Referee is Dwayne Henry of Riverton, Utah.
These 10 boys will also compete in the men’s freestyle competition on Saturday in the same weight classes.
The competition continues on Friday, with the women’s freestyle tournament. The USA has a full team of 10 athletes, all who were Schoolgirl National champions this year in Irving, Texas. Coaching the U.S. women’s team is Mike Duran of Baldwin Park, Calif. and Max Mejia of Chandler, Ariz.
The time in Villahermosa is the same as U.S. Central time zone. The Mexican wrestling federation had a Facebook Live broadcast of the Greco-Roman event, and if there is one for the other two styles, USA Wrestling will post that information on its social media.
