For the second straight year, USA Wrestling’s Associated Styles Ad-Hoc Committee has created a Masters Ironman standings, to promote and celebrate USA Wrestling’s Masters competitors in all of the recognized styles of wrestling.

Masters wrestlers have the opportunity to compete in five different styles this year: folkstyle, Greco-Roman, freestyle, Grappling and Beach Wrestling.

The national-level Masters competitions have concluded, and a series of United World Wrestling World Championships events will be held in the upcoming weeks.

For National-level events, champions get 10 points, Second Place gets 7 points, Third Place gets 4 points and Fourth Place gets 1 point.

Holding his lead in the standings after the national phase of competition is is Jeff Anderson of Zeeland, Mich. and Gabe Beauperthuy of Colorado Springs, Colo., who lead the field with 30 points.

Anderson has won Masters national events this year in folkstyle, freestyle and Greco-Roman. Beauperthuy has won his Masters national titles in freestyle, Greco-Roman and Beach Wrestling.

Anderson won the 2017 Masters Ironman standings and Beauperthuy was fourth last year.

Three points behind the leaders are Rashad Riley of Granite City, Ill. and James Medeiros of Fremont, Calif. with 27 points. Riley is a national champion in folkstyle and Greco-Roman, with a third place in freestyle. Medeiros is a national champion in both freestyle and Greco-Roman, and third in folkstyle.

The Masters Ironman standings include every athlete who placed in the top four of his/her weight class at a USA Wrestling Masters-level national event this past season.

The Associated Styles Ad-Hoc Committee has voted to double the points scored for UWW World Championships, giving World champions 20 points, World silver medalists 14 points, World bronze medalists 8 points and World fourth-place finishers (or fifth if there are two bronze medalists) two points.

The Veterans Grappling World Championships are in Astana, Kazakshtan, September 6-7, and the USA has a team of athletes entered. There will also be U.S. delegations at both the Veterans Freestyle World Championships in Skopje, Macedonia, September 28-30 and the Veterans Greco-Roman World Championships in Perm, Russia from October 5-7.

The final Veterans Ironman standings will be posted at the conclusion of the World Championships events.
