USA Wrestling is pleased to report that its new USA Wrestling Safe Sport Program Handbook is available for free download on its website TheMat.com, just in time for the new 2018-19 membership year.

This comprehensive 55-page document covers all aspects of USA Wrestling’s SafeSport policies and procedures, as well as provides extensive resources that can be used by the entire wrestling community.

“USA Wrestling is dedicated to providing an atmosphere where all athletes can reach their full athletic and human potential. An important part of that is creating an environment that is safe for everyone. We are all a part of creating that safe environment - USA Wrestling staff, coaches, state associations, clubs, parents and athletes,” said Dan Prochnow, USA Wrestling’s Safe Sport Director.

This document is geared for all in the wrestling community, with a variety of sections. They are:

1. USA Wrestling Safe Sport Policy

2. Education and Awareness Training

3. Screening and Background Check Program

4. Reporting of Concerns of Abuse

5. Responding to Abuse and Other Misconduct

6. Monitoring and Supervision of Program

7. Appendix A, B, C, D

This document has been approved by USA Wrestling’s Board of Directors, and is now available to the wrestling community. Those involved in USA Wrestling now have a specific program to put into place and follow.

The Handbook also explains how the wrestling community can directly contact the U.S. Center for Safe Sport if they suspect sexual misconduct or are a victim of sexual misconduct.

It is important to understand that people can report concerns anonymously to the U.S. Center for Safe Sport (for sexual misconduct) or to USA Wrestling (for other forms of misconduct).

“This handbook and USA Wrestling’s Safe Sport program will succeed as we provide educational opportunities for our entire wrestling community. It is through education that we develop knowledge and the ability to spot potential misconduct before it happens,” said Prochnow.
