BUDAPEST, Hungary - The United States will battle in two women’s freestyle matches on Thursday night.

The repechage rounds for the final four weight classes in women’s wrestling was held during the morning session. There were no U.S. wrestlers in action in repechage.

However, the results at 62 kg/136.5 lbs. determined the opponent for Mallory Velte (Sacramento, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) in the bronze-medal match. Winning the repechage in her half-bracket was Lais Nunes de Oliveira of Brazil. Nunez was a 2018 World Military silver medalist.

Sara Hildebrandt (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC/OTC) will battle 2017 World champion Haruna Okuno of Japan for the gold medal at 53 kg/116.5 lbs.

The medal rounds in women’s freestyle are set for 6:00 p.m. in Budapest, which is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time. The tournament is being broadcast by TrackWrestling.

The team race will be determined in this session. Heading into the last four weight classes, the United States was in third place behind Japan and Canada. However, with Hildebrandt and Velte going for medals, the USA is guaranteed 30 more points for reaching those medal matches. Team USA is right in the hunt for one of the trophies, which goes to the top three nations.

The USA has won two women’s freestyle medals so far, with Adeline Gray getting gold at 72 kg and Tamyra Mensah-Stock getting bronze at 68 kg.
