Dlagnev named U.S. men's freestyle World Team coach

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The men’s freestyle coaching staff is set for the 2018 Senior World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

In hopes of repeating its 2017 team championship, the freestyle squad will be led by the U.S. National Team coaches as well as assigned coach Tervel Dlagnev.

Dlagnev is starting his third year as an assistant coach at Ohio State University. Since taking a position with the Buckeyes, he has helped lead the squad to a pair of NCAA runner-up team finishes and a 2017 Big Ten team title.

Additionally, Dlagnev has coached 14 All-Americans in just his two seasons on staff. He also serves as a personal coach for two-time World champion and 2016 Olympic champion Kyle Snyder, who was a three-time NCAA champion for Ohio State.

As an athlete, Dlagnev was a two-time Olympian, representing the U.S. in the 2012 Games in London and the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. In both Olympic appearances, Dlagnev finished fifth. He was a four-time World Team member, winning World bronze medals in 2009 and 2014 and taking fifth in 2011 and 2013. In 2008, Dlagnev was a University World champion.

On the national scene, Dlagnev ran the gauntlet at 125 kg, claiming four U.S. Open titles.

Dlagnev will coach alongside U.S. National Team staff, including head coach Bill Zadick and assistant coaches Joe Russell and Kevin Jackson.

The men’s freestyle portion will kick off the 2018 World Championships, Oct. 20-22, in Budapest, Hungary.
