Daton Fix, Gable Steveson among newcomers in new WIN Div. I rankings

NEWTON, Iowa — The 2018-19 NCAA Division I regular season has started and 14 newcomers are ranked in WIN’s initial Tournament Power Index and individual rankings, presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.
Among these rookies are 10 redshirt freshmen and four true freshmen, led by former Junior World champions Daton Fix of Oklahoma State (ranked No. 8 at 133 pounds) and Minnesota’s Gable Steveson (No. 4 at heavyweight).
In WIN’s Tournament Power Index (TPI), Penn State leads the field with 112 points. The Nittany Lions have won the last three national tournaments and seven of the last eight NCAAs. PSU features ranked seven wrestlers; all rated in the Top 8 (All-American level) of their weight class. That includes three returning national champs, who are tabbed No. 1: Jason Nolf (157), Vincenzo Joseph (165) and Bo Nickal (197).
Oklahoma State and Iowa each featured 10 ranked wrestlers and are rated second and third, respectively, with 79.5 and 78 points. The Cowboys feature eight Top-8 wrestlers, led by Nick Piccininni (125) and heavyweight Derek White, who are ranked No. 3. The Hawkeyes feature six Top-8 ranked wrestlers, including Spencer Lee (125) and Sam Stoll, who are ranked No. 1.
The remaining Top 10-ranked schools are Ohio State, Michigan, NC State, Missouri, Nebraska, Cornell and Arizona State.
