Maccabi USA to host UWW Junior Nationals & Junior Open Freestyle for Jewish wrestlers, Sept. 30 on Long Island, N.Y.

Philadelphia, PA, July 24, 2018 – Maccabi USA Wrestling is pleased to announce an upcoming wrestling tournament.


The UWW Juniors National Freestyle & Jim Davey L.L. Junior Open Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Girls Championships will take place September 30, 2018 at LIU Post in Old Brookville, N.Y. from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.


This will be a USA Wrestling Sanctioned Event.


There will be four tournaments taking place at this event in multiple age divisions and weight classes. Wrestlers can register for multiple tournaments. Registration is $50 for the first tournament and $10 for each additional tournament.


The four age divisions are:

* UWW Junior Men Freestyle, open to high schoolers (grades 9-12) as of 9/30/18 and appropriate aged college athletes;

* USA Wrestling Junior Boys Freestyle, open to high schoolers (grades 9-12)

* USA Wrestling Junior Boys Greco-Roman, open to high schoolers (grade 9-12) as of 9/30/18

* USA Wrestling Junior Girls, open to high schoolers (graders 9-12) as of 9/30/18.


All applicants must have a current 2018-19 USA Wrestling Membership Card.

This tournament will be the first time Maccabi USA Wrestling will host a UWW Junior National Championship and are looking to recruit athletes from all around the country.


“In order to continue the success of the 2017 World Team, we must identify wrestlers with a Jewish heritage, who are and will be qualified to wrestle at the highest levels now and in the future” said Maacabi USA Wrestling Chair Chris Feder. “By having competitions like the Junior Nationals, we will be able to establish a competition ladder for each international weight class with an eye to the Maccabiah World Games in 2021.”


In addition to the competition, a World Class Wrestling Clinic featuring 2000 Olympic champion Brandon Slay of the Pennsylvania RTC, and Stanford assistant coach and Maccabiah Games gold medalist Nate Engel on Saturday, September 29 at LIU-Post in Old Brookville, N.Y., from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The preregistration cost is $40.
