Abe Assad of Illinois claimed a bronze medal for Team USA at the Cadet Worlds in freestyle on Tuesday at 80 kg. Assad lost in his second match on Monday, and was pulled back into repechage, where he won three straight bouts to secure his medal. In the bronze-medal bout, Assad trailed by four points, but powered back late, scoring a pair of takedowns in the final 70 seconds to defeat Sagadulla Agaev of Azerbaijan, 7-6. He was one of three USA medalists on Tuesday, as Richard Figueroa at 48 kg and Greg Kerkvliet at 110 kg won silver medals. Team USA stands in fourth, with one day to go. UWW Photo by Martin Gabor.
