Campbellsville defeats King, 37-8, to win Patriot Duals team title

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Campbellsville “A” went 6-0 on the weekend to win the team title at the Patriot Duals, hosted by the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.

The team title came down between Campbellsville “A” and four-time defending WCWA team champion King University, who were both undefeated entering the dual.

King won the first match, when two-time WCWA national champion Marina Doi defeated Tiger freshman Katyln Pizzo, 10-0.

Campbellsville responded, rattling off eight-straight wins, shutting out the King opponents in each bout.

Picking up wins for the Tigers were 2017 All-American Charlotte Fowler at 109 pounds, freshman Maria Ramos at 116 pounds, two-time Junior World Team member and freshman McKayla Campbell at 123 pounds, 2017 All-American and Senior National Team member Koral Sugiyama at 130 pounds, three-time WCWA champion and Senior National Team member Kayla Miracle at 136 pounds, junior Courtney Gray at 143 pounds and 2017 All-American Mariah Harris at 170 pounds.

At 155 pounds, sophomore Morgan Becker was awarded a win by forfeit.

King was back on the board at 191 pounds as junior transfer Clarc Walker recorded a 12-2 technical fall over Campbellsville’s Rockie Valderrama.

The Tigers went on to defeat the Tornado, 37-8.

There were Campbellsville wrestlers from the “A” squad that went 6-0 individually, including Fowler, Campbell and Harris.

Campbellsville entered two squads, A and B, that collectively went 9-3 over the two days of competition.

Other schools competing included Ferrum College (2-5), Life University (2-5), Lindenwood-Belleville (0-7) and University of the Cumberlands “A” (5-2) and “B” (3-4).
