Michigan leads Schoolboy/girl Freestyle All-Tournament Team with six and 25 make team in both styles

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The All-Tournament Team in freestyle has been announced from the Schoolboy National Duals, a dual meet competition featuring 13-14 year old wrestlers representing state association teams.


An athlete must go undefeated in a minimum number of matches in that specific style to earn All-Tournament Team honors.


In freestyle, there were 59 athletes on the All-Tournament Team, representing 27 different states. Michigan had the most All-Tournament Team members in freestyle with six. Idaho and Indiana were next with four on the All-Tournament Freestyle Team. Coming in with three on the All-Tournament team in freestyle were Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky and Tennessee.


Of the athletes on the All-Tournament Team in freestyle, the best record was 9-0, with 10 wrestlers who reached that record during the tournament: Kyison Garcia of Utah (70), Aiden Riggins of Iowa (91), Anthony Ferrari of Texas (98), Hayden Taylor of Iowa (98), Antwuan Burns of Ohio (128), Lenny Pinto of Pennsylvania (144), Seth Shumate of Ohio (152), Lucas Scott of New York (190), Kolby Franklin of Pennsylvania (190) and Tyler Rice of New York (210)


There were 25 wrestlers who made the All-Tournament Team in both freestyle and Greco-Roman: Cael Hughes of Oklahoma (70), Brandon Cannon of Colorado (77), Christopher Martino of Idaho (77), Caden Horwath of Michigan (84), Brennan VanHoeke of Florida (84), Cory Land of Alabama (84), Zachary Espalin of Virginia (84), Casey Swiderski of Michigan (91), Stevie Barnes of Iowa (91), Anthony Ferrari of Texas (98), Jesse Mendez of Indiana (105), James Johnston of Michigan (120), Nicholas Vafiadis of Virginia (120), Damien Lopez of Illinois (120), Antwuan Burns of Ohio (128), Stoney Buell of Michigan (136), Lenny Pinto of Pennsylvania (144), Seth Shumate of Ohio (152), Quentin Saunders of Kansas (160), Mike TalShahar of Florida (160), Ethan Kremer of Kansas (175), Noah Pettigrew of Georgia (175), Lucas Schott of New York (190), Sean Horner of New Jersey (210) and Matthew Munoz of Indiana (265).


Of the All-Tournament Team members who doubled up in both styles, the best overall record was a combined 18-record, which was achieved by four wrestlers from Michigan: Caden Horwath (84), Casey Swiderski (91), James Johnston (120) and Stoney Buell (136).
