Molinaro, Garrett, Felix, Grant win gold medals at Guelph International in Canada

GUELPH, Canada – Four U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers won gold medals at the Guelph International on Saturday.
Among the American champions was 2016 U.S. Olympian Frank Molinaro (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC), who won the gold medal at 70 kg/154 lbs. Molinaro was competing up a weight class from his normal 65 kg/143 lbs.
Molinaro won all three of his matches against Canadian opponents by technical fall, outscoring his opponents, 31-0. He defeated Canadian Dillon Willams of Team Impact), 10-0.
Molinaro, an NCAA champion at Penn State, was fifth at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
Other U.S. individual champions were Nahshon Garrett (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) at 57 kg/125.5 lbs., JT Felix (Ann Arbor, Mich./Double Leg Ninja) at 97 kg/213 lbs. and Justin Grant (Buffalo, N.Y./New York AC) at 125 kg/275 lbs.
Garrett won three matches on the way to the title. He won a close 12-9 semifinal bout over Taiki Arinobu of Japan, and followed that up with a 16-3 technical fall over Canadian Steven Takahashi of London-Western, 16-3. Garrett was an NCAA champion for Cornell.
Felix dominated four opponents on the way to his title, with a pin and three technical falls. He scored a 13-2 technical fall in the finals over Hamed Rowshani of the Montreal YMHA of Canada. Felix was an All-American for Boise State.
Grant had a big win in his semifinals, defeating 2016 Canadian Olympian Korey Jarvis of the Guelph WC, 2-1. In the finals, Grant dominated Canadian Nolan Terrance of KWSS, in a 10-0 technical fall. Grant competed for Bloomsburg in college.
Two-time NCAA champion Kellen Russell (Ann Arbor, Mich./Double Leg Ninja) placed third at 65 kg/143 lbs., finishing with a 5-1 record. He beat Canadian Cruz Manning of Brock University in the bronze-medal bout by an 11-0 technical fall.
