UPDATE: Oklahoma State puts seven wrestlers into Southern Scuffle finals to retain big lead in team race

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Oklahoma State, ranked as the nation’s No. 1 team in all the college rankings, placed seven wrestlers in the gold-medal finals of the Southern Scuffle at the Univ. of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Cowboys who advanced to the finals with victories in Monday’s semifinals include Kaid Brock (133), 2016 NCAA champion Dean Heil (141), Anthony Collica (149), Joe Smith (157), Chandler Rogers (165), Kyle Crutchmer (174) and Nolan Boyd (184). Oklahoma State had 10 semifinalists, one in each weight class.
Heading into the medal matches, Oklahoma State had 176 points, ahead of second place Lehigh with 116.5 points. Rounding out the top five were Missouri with 116 points, Minnesota with 111 and Northern Iowa with 83.5.
Also advancing to the championship finals are two-time NCAA champions Gabe Dean of Cornell (184) and J’den Cox of Missouri (197). Dean will battle No. 2 seed Nolan Boyd of Oklahoma State in the finals, while Cox has drawn No. 2 seed Brett Pfarr of Minnesota in his championship bout.
2016 Junior World champion Mark Hall of Penn State, a freshman who is taking a redshirt at Penn State and was not seeded in the tournament, continued his march through the 174 pound bracket with a pin of No. 5 seed Ryan Preisch of Lehigh in the semifinals. Hall will battle No. 2 seeded Crutchmer in the finals. Hall defeated the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 8 seeds so far during the Scuffle.
The evening session, which features the championship finals and the medal matches, begins at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time. Flowrestling is providing a live webcast and live brackets on FloArena.
