Iowa Central claims team title at NJCAA with three national champs

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Iowa Central Community College held off Clackamas by 3.5 points in the NJCAA Junior College National Championships team race that came down to the final match of the tournament.
Iowa Central put up 150 points led by three national champs and five other All-Americans.
Todd Small grabbed the first NJCAA title of the day for Triton wrestling with a 4-3 decision over David Campbell of Clackamas at 125 pounds.
At 157 pounds, Dayton Racer earned a major decision en route to the title, shutting out Brett Bradford of Rochester, 13-0.
The final champion from Iowa Central was heavyweight Thomas Petersen, who sealed the team title for the Triton with a second-period fall over Mario Pena of NIACC, the only returning 2016 All-American at the weight.
Clackamas kept the team race close, sending five to the finals and wrapping up the night with two national champions, including Josh Reyes at 149 pounds and Colt Doyle at 174 pounds.
Finishing with 143 points was defending team champions Northeast Oklahoma. The Golden Norsemen also earned two champions in addition to seven other All-Americans.
Sean DeShazer defeated two-time NJCAA finalist Zak Hensley in the 133-pound finals, 10-6, and Wyatt Jordan took out Dillon Ulrey of Clackamas at 165 pounds, 6-2.
Ellsworth and Iowa Western each snagged a national champion to finish fifth and sixth in the final team scores.
Ellsworth’s Timothy Young claimed the 197-pound crown with a fall over 2016 All-American Christian Dulaney of Iowa Lakes in 6:46.
Preston Lauterbach of Iowa Western also recorded a fall in the finals, sticking Haszell West from Clackamas in 1:43 in a rematch of the 2016 NJCAA third-place bout.
Leading Nassau to a 15th-place team finish was Nick Casella, who won the NJCAA championship at 141 pounds, putting up a solid 10-4 win over Andrew Ramirez of Highline.
