WBU Pioneers tab six champions at Wayland Women's Invitational

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Wayland Baptist women’s wrestling team scored six champions at its host event, Wayland Women’s Invitational, in Plainview, Texas, on Saturday.

Turning in gold-medal performances for the Pioneers were 2017 Junior World bronze medalist Asia Ray at 101 pounds, Rhonda Johnson at 116 pounds, 2017 Junior Pan-Am bronze medalist Gabriela Ramos at 123 pounds, two-time WCWA champion Brittany Marshall at 170 pounds and Alexis Tarango at 191 pounds.

At 136 pounds, a three-time WCWA All-American and current student assistant coach for WBU Tarkyia Mensah was the sixth champion for the squad.

Emmanuel Baptist won three titles on Saturday, coming from 2017 U23 World team member Cody Pfau at 109 pounds, Abigail Nette at 130 pounds and 2015 Cadet World bronze medalist Kayla Marano at 143 pounds.

The tenth champion was Ottawa University sophomore Kendra Kehrli, who won the 155-pound bracket.
