Athletes who plan to compete in the 2016 U.S. Grappling World Team Trials in Wilmington, N.C. on Sunday, May 22 should be aware of a major discount if they enter in both the No-Gi and the Gi divisions.
If an athlete enters one of the Grappling styles for the $75 entry fee, they can add in the other Grappling style for just $1. This is in effect a buy-one, get-one for a buck offer. To receive this rate, an athlete must register online in advance.
United World Wrestling decided to include both No-Gi Grappling and Gi Grappling at the World Championships last year, after Gi had been dropped for a short time. USA Wrestling only held a No-Gi Grappling division at the 2015 Grappling World Trials, but added in the Gi Grappling division again this year.
Winners of the Senior division at the U.S. Grappling World Team Trials will qualify to represent the United States at the 2016 Senior Grappling World Championships in Minsk, Belarus, Sept. 30-Oct. 3.
The U.S. Grappling World Team Trials will be again held at Eugene Ashley High School in Wilmington. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, with weigh-in for both styles, as well as for Belt Wrestling at 9:30 a.m. The No-Gi competition will begin at 11:00 a.m. When that tournament ends, Gi-Grappling will be held, then followed by Belt Wrestling.
In addition to encouraging athletes to enter both of the Grappling styles, athletes are also invited to compete in the U.S. Beach National Championships on Saturday at Carolina Beach, N.C., and the new Belt Wrestling competition on Sunday alongside the Grappling.
Here is the fee structure for those competing in North Carolina during the weekend of May 21-22:
Beach - $20
No-Gi Grappling - $75
Gi Grappling - $1 (if doing No-Gi)
Belt - $10
In effect, for a combined $106 in entry fees, an athlete could attempt to win four USA Wrestling national titles in the non-Olympic styles during two days of competition. If somebody could do that, it would be a tremendous achievement. Are you up for the challenge?

In 2015, the United States won four medals in No-Gi Grappling at the World Championships in Turkey, led by silver medalist Mike Kelly (77 kg), and bronze medalists Matt Holt (66 kg), Jessica Philippus (53 kg) and Bethany Marshall (58 kg).
The competition will be conducted under the current United World Wrestling Grappling rules. A pdf of the Grappling rules can be downloaded at the link below:

The U.S. Beach National Championships return to Carolina Beach, N.C. for the fourth straight year on May 21. Competition will be held in the Senior Men and Senior Women’s divisions, along with Bantam, Intermediate, Novice, Schoolboy/girl, Cadet, Junior and Veterans (Div. A and B).
