In 2015, past World bronze medalist Ike Okoli of Southern Hawk Wrestling repeated as a Senior Beach National champion, defeating 2015 Grappling World Team Trials champion Gabe Beauperthuy of Colorado in the finals at Unlimited. Okoli scored all three points in the final match to secure the victory.

Josh Stanley of Combat Athletics, who was third in the 2014 Beach Nationals, powered his way to the gold medal at 70 kg in 2015. He defeated Logan Simpson of OXB Elite in the finals.

Butch Hildebrandt of Wruffhouse Wrestling was the 80 kg champion, with a victory over Jacob Honeycutt of Freedom Wrestling Club in the finals. Nate Bipes of the Goon Squad Greco Club won the 90 kg title, winning a six athlete round-robin with five victories, including a win over runner-up Shawn Roberts of Port City.

Three athletes repeated as Beach National Champions in the youth divisions in 2015: Nick Wimmer of Combat Athletics (Junior 312), Caleb Giles of Ashley High School (Cadet 238) and Burke Wilson of Freedom Wrestling Club (Bantam 67).

Beach wrestling is both fun and challenging, giving wrestlers of all ages a chance to test themselves while enjoying a day at the beach with family and friends. This sport continues to grow in popularity across the United States and around the world.

As the 2016 Beach World Championships is just a few days after the U.S. Beach National Championships, this year’s World Team was selected by a petition process. However, the 2016 U.S. Beach National Champions on the Senior level will get the first opportunity to compete for the USA at the 2017 Beach World Championships.

For the second straight year, USA Wrestling will host the U.S. Grappling World Team Trials during the same weekend at the U.S. Beach Nationals. This year, the U.S. Grappling World Team Trials will be held at Eugene Ashley High School in Wilmington, N.C. on Sunday, May 22.

Athletes who plan to compete at the Beach Nationals are also invited to enter the Grappling World Team Trials. The combined events will allow athletes to compete for national honors and U.S. World Team in two different popular non-Olympic styles of wrestling.

Winners of the Senior division at the U.S. Grappling World Team Trials will qualify to represent the United States at the 2016 Senior Grappling World Championships in Minsk, Belarus, Sept. 30-Oct. 3.

As United World Wrestling has committed to hold World Championships events in both No-Gi and Gi Grappling styles, there will be a separate World Team Trials event for each style in Wilmington on May 22.
