CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – No. 1 ranked Wartburg, led by five finalists, leads Messiah by 17.5 points going into the final session of the NCAA Div. III Nationals on Saturday.
The semifinals were held, and consolation rounds finished, setting up the final medal match pairings in the 10 weight classes.
Wartburg finalists are No. 3 Kenneth Martin (149), No. 2 Nicholas Michael (165), No. 3 Drew Wagenhoffer (157), No. 1 Eric DeVos (174) and No. 2 Gerard Roman (197).
Messiah has three finalists: No. 1 Lucas Malmberg (125), No. 7 Ben Swarr (174) and No. 3 Josh Thomson (184).
Of interest are the three unseeded wrestlers who reached the championship finals: C.J. Pestano of Central (125), Devin Broukal of Wabash (133) and Trevor Engle of Cornell College (149).
