COLUMBIA, Mo. – Oklahoma City University alumna Emily Webster will be honored as the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Missouri Chapter’s person of the year Oct. 25 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center.
From Sedalia, Mo., Webster finished her OCU career with four 101-pound Women’s College Wrestling Association national championships and a 118-0 record.
Webster is sharing the award with Drake Houdashelt, who became an NCAA champion from the University of Missouri.
“She is probably one of the most tenacious athletes I have ever coached,” OCU coach Archie Randall said. “She is great in the room. She is a team leader. She leads by example. She’s a hard worker. She’s a great student. She never quits in a match, no matter what the score is. She is probably every wrestling coach’s dream of an athlete. All you do is point her in one direction, and she goes.”
Webster's singlet is on display in the women's exhibit inside the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Okla.
Webster took the 2015 WCWA Championships Outstanding Wrestler award after becoming the third four-time WCWA champion. She became the second OCU student-athlete ever recognized in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd. Webster, who graduated with a 3.95 grade-point average majoring in environmental studies, took the 2014-15 Jim Wade Award as the Stars’ female student-athlete of the year.
“She’s a great driven individual,” Randall said about Webster. “She is a four-time national champion and hopefully, you know, she’s still kicking around the idea of trying the Olympic deal. And I hope she does because I think she can be an Olympian too.”
Webster will be honored alongside the chapter’s hall of fame induction class starting 2 p.m. Oct. 25 with a social hour. A meal will be served 3 p.m. followed by the induction ceremony. Reservations must be made in advance. Individual banquet tickets can be purchased for $50, while tables of eight are available for $400.
You may purchase tickets online here or contact Mike Hagerty at (816) 510-9500 or mhagerty@bssd.net. The Holiday Inn Executive Center is located at 2200 I-70 Drive Southwest in Columbia, Mo.
