ANTALYA, Turkey – Stevan Micic (Cedar Lake, Ind./Chicago RTC) won a bronze medal today at 55 kg/121 lbs. in men’s freestyle at the respected Mithat Bayrak and Ismet Atli Junior International.
Micic finished with a 2-1 record in the tournament. He lost in his opening match to eventual champion Sezgin Pismisoglu of Turkey, 8-10, but was pulled back into the repechage when his opponent reached the championship finals.
In his first repechage match, Micic pinned Murtskvaladze of Georgia. In his bronze-medal match, Micic defeated an Afgan Khashalov of Azerbaijan by a 12-9 margin.
Micic was second in 2014 and 2015 UWW Junior Nationals, and is a past Cadet World Team member. Micic competes for Northwestern Univ.
Yesterday, 2014 UWW Cadet World silver medalist Jordan Wood (Gilbertsville, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC), placed fifth today at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
Competing on Sunday at 85 kg/187 lbs. will be 2015 UWW Nationals champion Zahid Valencia (Pico Rivera, Calif./Sunkist Kids) and Penn State wrestler Bo Nickal (Allen, Texas/Nittany Lion WC), who fifth in 2013 UWW Cadet Worlds. Nickal won a gold at this event in Turkey last year.
