13 U.S. wrestlers in May UWW men’s freestyle World rankings

United World Wrestling released its newest men’s freestyle World rankings for May.
There are 13 American wrestlers in this month’s rankings among the top 20 in their weight classes.
Holding the highest ranking again is Olympic champion and two-time World champion Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids/Nebraska RTC) at No. 2 at 74 kg. Burroughs remains behind only three-time World champion Denis Tsargush of Russia, who beat Burroughs in the World semifinals last year. Burroughs won all four of his matches at the 2015 World Cup in Los Angeles.
Moving up three spots to No. 5 at 65 kg is three-time World Team member Brent Metcalf (Iowa City, Iowa/New York AC/Hawkeye WC) who also won all four of his matches at World Cup.
Also in the top 10 is two-time World medalist Tervel Dlagnev (Columbus, Ohio/Sunkist Kids/Ohior RTC) at 125 kg. Dlagnev won his two bouts at the World Cup.
Three other Americans moved up in the rankings.
Tony Ramos, Iowa City, Iowa (Titan Mercury WC/Hawkeye WC) moved up to No. 13 at 57 kg, six spots up from last month. Ramos had a strong effort at the Freestyle World Cup.
Moving up two spots was 2015 Pan American Championships champion Dustin Schlatter (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 70 kg. Moving up one place was another 2015 Pan American champion, Zach Rey, (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC), now No. 14 at 125 kg
There are three Americans in the May rankings who did not appear in April. At No. 18 at 74 kg is Tyler Caldwell, (Stillwater, Okla./Titan Mercury WC), who was a champion and Outstanding Wrestler at the Pan American Championships. Appearing at No. 18 at 97 kg is 2012 Olympic champion Jake Varner (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC), who went 3-1 at the World Cup. Now at No. 19 at 66 kg is Jordan Oliver (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids)
