King remains No. 1 WCWA women’s college team, with four new No. 1 ranked individuals

King University, the two-time defending WCWA women’s college national champions, have retained the No. 1 team ranking on the women’s college scene for December.


In November, King won the team title, had two champions and seven top-three medalists at the Missouri Valley Open.


This month, King stayed at No. 1 with 126 points, followed by Oklahoma City, who remained at No. 2 with 84 points. Holding the No. 3 spot with 82 points was Simon Fraser. The top five remained the same as November, as the University of the Cumberlands are at No. 4 and Campbellsville holds down No. 5.


In the individual rankings, there are four new No. 1 ranked wrestlers. There are two new freshman with No. 1 rankings, 2015 Junior World bronze medalist Becka Leathers of Oklahoma City at 123 pounds and Wayland Baptist freshman Brittany Marshall at 170 pounds.


At 101 pounds, senior Ashley Illif of King replaces teammate Marina Doi with the No. 1 ranking. Also new to the No. 1 spot is senior Monica Ramirez of Lindenwood at 136 pounds.


With freshmen Leathers and Marshall taking top rankings, there are three freshmen who are currently in the No. 1 spots. University of the Cumberlands freshman Jessika Rottier has retained the top ranking at 155 pounds.


Other wrestlers who maintained the No. 1 ranking are junior Cody Pfau of Oklahoma City at 109, senior Samantha Klingel of King at 116, sophomore Kayla Miracle of Campbellsville at 130, sophomore Mallory Velte of Simon Fraser at 143 and sophomore Payten Smith of Simon Fraser at 191.
