Weekend road win over Oklahoma State vaults N.C. State into Top 5 of NWCA Div. I Coaches Poll

Manheim, Pa. – After winning six of 10 individual matches on the road and earning a 19-15 win over then-No. 4 Oklahoma State, N.C. State vaulted eight spots to No. 5 in the most recent USA Today/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.

The Wolfpack improved to 9-0 on the season and coach Pat Popolizio’s squad is the highest ranked team of the four ACC teams in the Top 25.

Penn State (4-0) remained No. 1 and was a unanimous pick for the top spot for the first time this season. Iowa (7-0) remained No. 2, while Ohio State (3-0) held at No. 3. With Oklahoma State’s loss, Nebraska (5-0) moved up to No. 4.

Oklahoma State (2-2) slipped five spots to No. 9 behind Virginia Tech (3-1), Oklahoma (5-0) and Missouri (2-0). With N.C. State’s move up, it pushed Michigan (3-1) down a spot to No. 10.

Purdue (5-1) entered the dual rankings for the first time this season at No. 24, giving the Big Ten Conference 10 schools in the nation’s Top 25.
