Long Island High School All-Star event held alongside Bill Farrell International at Hofstra, Nov. 9

Three-time New York State champion Nick Piccininni of Ward Melville High School, who will wrestle on the Suffolk team, is among the top stars who will compete at the All-Star Classic at Hofstra.
A star-studded high school challenge event, featuring many of the best high school wrestlers from Long Island, will be held alongside the 2014 Bill Farrell International at Hofstra University’s Mack Arena in Hempstead, N.Y on Sunday, November 9.
The X-Athletic/Flips Wrestling Section VIII (Nassau) vs. Section XI (Suffolk) All-Star Classic will be held at 4:00 p.m., between sessions of the men’s freestyle competition of the Bill Farrell International.
There is a long rivalry between wrestlers from Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island. Both counties have a storied history of producing many of the best high school wrestlers in New York State, including those moving on to outstanding careers in college and the Olympic level.
The 12-match card features five past New York State champions, and four additional wrestlers who have been New York State runners-up.
Scheduled to compete for Suffolk is three-time New York State champion Nick Piccininni of Ward Melville High School.
Other past New York State champions on the card include Nassau’s Jacori Teemor of Long Beach, Nassau’s Kyle Quinn of Wantagh, Suffolk’s Chris Mauriello of Hauppage and Nassau’s Hunter Dusold of Locust Valley.
A headline battle features state champions going against each other, as Piccinnini will wrestle against Dusold.
Past state runners-up on the card include Nassau’s Jonathon Gomez of Locust Valley, Nassau’s Nick Cassella of Locust Valley, Suffolk’s Jesse Delvecchia of East Islip and Suffolk’s Adam Busiello of ESM.
Four of the wrestlers are ranked in the Top 20 of their weight class nationally in the most recent Flowrestling rankings. Piccininni (XI) is No. 2 at 126, Mike D’Angelo of Commack (XI) is No. 11 at 132, Tommy Dutton of Rocky Point (IX) is No. 11 at 145, and Teemor (VIII) is No. 14 at 105.
Four-time NCAA champion Kyle Dake will serve as the celebrity coach for the Suffolk team, while NCAA champion and 2014 World Team member Tony Ramos will be the celebrity coach for the Nassau team.
The X-Athletic/Flips Wrestling Section VIII vs. Section XI All-Star Classic will be televised on MSG Varsity, with Nick Garone calling the action.
This is part of a full weekend of wrestling activities, including clinics featuring two-time World champion Adeline Gray, four-time NCAA champion Kyle Dake, NCAA champion and World Team member Tony Ramos, and two-time World medalist Helen Maroulis.
The longest running international tournament in the United States, the New York Athletic Club International changed its named to the Bill Farrell International this year, to honor the late NYAC Wrestling Chairman and 1972 Olympic Head Coach Bill Farrell. As part of this change, the event has been moved to Long Island and many new exciting activities have been added to the schedule.
The women’s freestyle and the Greco-Roman competitions will be held on Saturday, November 8, while the men’s freestyle competition is set for Sunday, November 9. The competition is expected to feature many top Olympic hopefuls from all around the world.
Ticket holders for the Bill Farrell International will be able to attend the X-Athletic/Flips Wrestling All-Star Classic and the clinics on both days of the competition. Tickets cost $20 for students and $30 for adults, with special VIP seating available for $100.
