The Flo Premier League will continue its inaugural season with FPL 2: Gavin vs. Ruth on Saturday, Nov. 29 alongside the Journeymen Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y.
The FPL 2 main event features a rematch of the 2014 World Team Trials finals as Keith Gavin will square off against Ed Ruth in what should be yet another thrilling chapter in this budding rivalry.
Last May at the World Team Trials in Madison, Wis. Ruth, fresh off his third NCAA title, emerged the victor over Gavin in the best-of-three finals series at 86 kg/189 lbs., two matches to one. Gavin was the reigning World Team member at that weight.
Gavin will look to even the score against Ruth in the fourth installment between the two top competitors.
"I'm very excited to be a part of the FPL and I'm looking forward to wrestling Ed Ruth again," said Gavin. "Ed is a tough competitor that will present a fun challenge. I expect to have an entertaining match that people will enjoy."
For Ruth, coming off his first World Championships appearance, FPL 2 presents an opportunity to leave no doubt as to who is the best in the nation at 86 kg.
"I'm always excited for an opportunity to put myself against elite competition,” said Ruth.
Gavin and Ruth will compete at 190 lbs. at FPL 2 under the same Flo Premier League rules that debuted last month at FPL 1: Perry vs. Hamlin.
The co-main event at FPL 2 will pit one of the top freestyle wrestlers in the U.S. Frank Molinaro against a superstar from the mixed martial arts world, UFC lightweight Gray Maynard.
Molinaro took the freestyle landscape by storm in 2014 during his first senior level freestyle campaign. The past NCAA Champion for Penn State won both the NYAC International and Dave Schultz Memorial International before capturing a fourth place finish at the U.S. Open and a third place finish at the World Team Trials at 65 kg/143 lbs.
Maynard has been atop the lightweight division in the UFC since his debut in 2006. He has fought in two UFC title fights, both against past NCAA qualifier for Clarion Frankie Edgar. Maynard was a three-time NCAA All-American for Michigan State.
Molinaro and Maynard are set to meet at 165 lbs. in their FPL 2 battle.
