OREM, Utah – Eleven athletes remain alive for the coveted Kids Triple Crown after victories in Greco-Roman on Tuesday at the ASICS Kids Freestyle and Greco-Roman Nationals.

An athlete receives the Triple Crown by winning USA Wrestling national titles in folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle during the same year.

All nine of these athletes were also winners at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa in April.

Only one Intermediate athlete remains eligible for this year’s Triple Crown, Joshua Barr of Team Donahoe in Michigan at 75 pounds.

Four Novice wrestlers are in the Triple Crown hunt after Greco titles, Alex Facundo of Team Donahoe in Michigan at 95 pounds, Rocky Elam of Team Central Wrestling in Missouri at 100 pounds, Greyden Penner of Sudden Victory Wrestling in Missouri at 112 pounds and Sawyer Hobbs of EIWA Elite in Idaho at 120 pounds.

Six Schoolboy wrestlers have won the first two legs of the Triple Crown: Cullan Schriever of Sebolt Wrestling Academy in Iowa at 70 pounds , Colton Yapoujian of Mile High Wrestling Club in Colorado at 91 pounds, Theorius Robison of Colorado National Team at 112 pounds, Brock Hardy of Team Utah at 136 pounds, Travis Wittlake of Team Bucs in Oregon at 152 pounds and Kaleb Reeves of Savage Wrestling in Iowa at 190 pouinds.

Wittlake has won three previous Triple Crowns, as an Intermediate in 2010, a Novice in 2011 and a Schoolboy in 2013. Robison was a Triple Crown winner in 2012 as a Novice.

There have been 142 Kids Triple Crowns awarded since the program was launched in 1997. Past winners have included U.S. Senior World Team members Brent Metcalf of Michigan, Angel Escobedo of Indiana, Jesse Thielke of Wisconsin and RaVaughn Perkins of Nebraska, plus NCAA champions Metcalf, Escobedo and Jon Reader of Michigan.

The freestyle competition begins Tuesday afternoon, and will be completed on Wednesday.
