Minnesota moves to No. 1 in NWCA Div. I Coaches Poll

As expected, the Minnesota Golden Gophers moved to No. 1 in this week’s USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll following a weekend win over then top-ranked Penn State 18-17.
The Gophers (10-1) received eight out of 10 first-place votes to become only the second team ranked No. 1 this season. Penn State held the No. 1 spot since the initial preseason ranking.
Penn State (13-1) dropped one spot to No. 2, while the top five remained the same as Iowa (13-2), Cornell (10-0) and Northern Iowa (11-0) remained ranked third through fifth. Pittsburgh (12-1) remained No. 6.
Oklahoma State (8-4) moved up to No. 7 after two weekend wins, including a 29-9 win over rival Oklahoma (9-3) at Bedlam. Oklahoma fell one spot to No. 11 this week
Michigan (10-4) jumped into the top 10 after a weekend win at Nebraska, although the Wolverines were hammered by Iowa on Sunday. The Wolverines are ranked eighth, followed by Nebraska (11-2) and Missouri (8-2).
Spots 10-20 remained unchanged with the only other movement coming in spots 21-25. Oregon State (9-6) was upset by unranked Arizona State over the weekend. The Beavers dropped three spots to No. 25, while Lehigh (8-5) moved up to No. 21, followed by Stanford (17-4), Northwestern (6-7) and Purdue (6-7).
