The Brown Bears wrestling team will be a featured guest on USA Wrestling’s College Wrestling Google+ Hangout On Air series next Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 3 p.m. (EST).
Joining the guest panel for this event will be Brown Head Coach Todd Beckerman and Bear wrestlers Ophir Bernstein, Justin Staudenmayer and Billy Watterson.
Beckerman is now in his second season at the helm of the Brown wrestling program. During his inaugural campaign as head coach, Beckerman helped lead Ophir Bernstein to All-American status, marking Brown’s first All-American in 16 years. Prior to his tenure at Brown, he was an assistant coach at Maryland for eight seasons helping the Terrapins claim four ACC championships. Beckerman was a two-time All-American at Nebraska.
Bernstein enters his senior campaign for the Bears having placed eighth at the NCAA Championships in 2014 at 184 pounds. He is currently ranked No. 20 in the NCAA by Flowrestling after a sixth place finish at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational last weekend.
Brown sophomore Staudenmayer will man the 157-pound spot for the Bears this season. He finished in fourth place at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational last weekend earning himself a No. 17 ranking in the NCAA.
Watterson returns to the Brown lineup at 125 pounds this season for his senior campaign. He took the 2013-14 season off to help found the Beat the Streets Providence organization to help provide urban youth an after-school setting for wrestling. Watterson qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2013.
Fans are encouraged to ask questions to the panelists using either the Google+ Q&A application or by tweeting questions using #BrownHangout.
The Brown Bears Google+ Hangout can be viewed live on TheMat.com and will be archived on the USA Wrestling YouTube Channel for public viewing at the conclusion of the event.
