The Key to Success: Part 2

The title is a definition of what is absolutely essential to achieving success. It goes "hand in hand" with my previous article on FOCUS.
Focusing and being able to visualize your goal is critically important to success, but there is something that all of us face every day that robs us of our ability to focus. These obstacles we face daily are life's distractions. In fact I believe the #1 cause of failure is DISTRACTIONS.
We all have a certain amount of focus but what I've seen in my life, and in the lives of other accomplished people, is an unwavering ability to "stay in the zone" and block out distractions. Successful people maintain the ability to STAY FOCUSED. The greater your ability to block out distraction, the greater your potential for success!
So how do we block distractions and move forward towards success? We must develop an acquired pattern of behavior and thought until it becomes almost involuntary, commonly known as forming a habit.
I believe before you can have sustained FOCUS you must first create a consistent and distraction-free environment this is done by developing a habit of a behavior. One of the key things I focused on as a wrestler was my NUTRITION. This was the game changer for me. Many athletes committed to training hard, but very few could sustain a focus on nutrition like I could. I knew nutrition was fueling my body and was key to controlling my overall health.
When I was at my best as a wrestler, I simply could not be DISTRACTED from my habit of healthy eating. I've been true to this routine of pursuing the best nutrition for 40 years now. I believe that developing a habit of eating nutritiously early in my life enabled me to maintain a healthy lifestyle today at 55.
The behavior I adopted assured me no distractions would hinder my success. My training, nutrition and match preparation were consistent and my results were consistent. The only way to develop a habit is to adopt an acquired pattern of behavior and thought until it becomes almost involuntary as a result of frequent repetition.
Almost everyone that is serious about success will work hard! It is not only about working hard. It is also about STAYING FOCUSED!
