UPDATE: Clark, Rogge win Gi Grappling bronzes at FILA Grappling Worlds in Poland

KRAKOW, Poland - The United States added a pair of Gi Grappling bronze medals on the last day of the FILA World Grappling Championships on Sunday.
Winning bronzes for Team USA was Danny Clark of Virginia at 84 kg/185 lbs. in the men's division, and Ryan Rogge of Florida at 64 kg/140.75 lbs. in the women's division. Both won the first FILA Grappling World medal of their careers.
Clark scored a submission win over Cedric Akakpovi of France in his bronze-medal match to finish with a 3-1 record in the tournament.
Clark opened the tournament with two wins, stopping Martin Lavin of Sweden and Teddy Doyle of Australia. He was defeated in the semifinals by Uros Domanovic of Serbia.
Rogge won her bronze-medal match with a 2-1 decision over Karolina Zawodnik of Poland.
She opened with a submission win over Mirjana Martinovic of Montenegro, then was beaten in the semifinals by Penny Thomas of South Africa.
Placing fifth after losing a bronze-medal match in the unlimited division were Kenny Lester of Arizona at unlimited in the men's division and Diana Anchondo of Arizona at 53 kg/116.75 lbs. in the women's division.
The United States was tied for eighth in the team standings with 16 points. Poland won the team title with 88 points, followed by Italy with 63 points and Serbia with 44 points.
The USA won six medals in No-Gi Grappling on Saturday, and with the two Gi Grappling medals on Sunday, Team USA had eight medals in the World Grappling competition this year.
"Considering the date changes of the event, the location (country) changes, and the fact that we forfeited three of the women's weight classes, we competed very well to earn the third place team trophy in the no-gi division. Team veterans Matt Betzold, Shane Cross, Mike Kelly and Jeff Monson all performed well, and all earned medals. Newcomers Nick Marr, Dan Huber and Gabriella Foster also looked good," said U.S. Grappling coach Sheldon Marr.
He was encouraged by the efforts of the athletes on the Gi team as well.
"In the gi division, first time team members Ryan Rogge and Dan Clark both brought excitment to this young team. With six years as one of the coaches of the USA Team, I'd have to say that this event's athletes are getting tougher and tougher each year. It's great to see, and we look forward to the challenge of next year's championships!" said Marr.
