Anthony, Isbell win silver medals on day one of Hari Ram Grand Prix in India

NEW DELHI, India -- Two U.S. women's wrestlers claimed silver medals on the first day of the Hari Ram Grand Prix on Friday.


Placing second were two-time Junior World champion Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, Calif./New York AC) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. and Shauna Isbell (Flagstaff, Ariz./Lindenwood) at 55 kg/121 lbs.


Anthony won her first two bouts, defeating Lyudmila Balushka of Ukraine in the quarterfinals, 2-0, 1-0 and Ueno Sakura of Japan in the semifinals, 4-1, 4-2.


Anthony was defeated in the finals by 2012 Asian silver medalist Lee Yu Mi of Korea, 1-0, 0-1, 0-2.


Isbell, a WCWA women's college nationals champion this year, opened with a pair of wins, stopping Lovina Edward of Nigeria, 1-0, 0-1, 2-1, then defeating Yuki Ikegame of Japan, 1-0, 1-4, 2-2.


She was defeated in the finals by Sumiya Erdenechimeg of Mongolia, 6-0, 3-0. Erdenchimeg was fifth in the 2012 Asian Championships.


One U.S. men's freestyle wrestler competed Friday, as Frank Perrelli (Hackettstown, N.J. /New York AC) placed 10th at 55 kg/121 lbs. with a 1-1 record. He opened with a win over Takuma Yamauchi of Japan, 1-0, 1-0, then was beaten in the next round by Nomin Batbold of Mongolia, 1-1, 0-7. When Batbold failed to reach the finals, Perrelli was not eligible for the repechage.


Perrelli was an All-American for Cornell this year, and was a 2010 University Nationals champion.


Five U.S. athletes weighed in on Friday, and received their draws for competition on Saturday. (see first round draw below)


The India Wrestling Federation announced a total prize purse of $98,000 with the gold medalists getting $3,000, the silver medalists earning $2,000 and the bronze medalists winning $1,000.
