Girls Folkstyle Nationals conclude with Schoolgirl and Kids division competition

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- USA Wrestling's Girls Folkstyle National Championships concluded with competition in the Schoolgirl and two Kids divisions on Sunday at the Freede Center on the campus of Oklahoma City University.
The tournament had a record number of entries this year for the youth athletes, with 149 competitors in these three divisions.
There were a number of champions who were able to repeat as Girls Folkstyle champions with wins on Sunday
At Schoolgirl 105 pounds, Gabrielle Garcia of Pounders WC was a repeat champion, defeating another returning champion in the finals, Alexis Bleau of Journeymen-New York. Garcia won last year at 89 pounds, while Bleau was the 89 pound champion.
Winning again this year was Ciana Sonberg of the USA Mat Club at Schoolgirl 120 pounds. Last year, she won in Div. II at 102 pounds.
Winning at Div. II at 65 pounds was repeat champion Emily Shilson of Pinnacle, who won last year won at Div. II at 60 pounds.
The champion at Div. II 60 pounds was repeat champion Samara Chavez of Wesley Wrestling. Chavez won last year at 50 pounds in Div. I.
Winning a Div. II title for the second straight year was the 95 pound champion Mercedes Gassmann of Team Kansas. She won last year at 80 lbs. in Div. II.
The champion in Div. II at 110 pounds was a repeat champion, Adelyhda Perez of Uvalde Wrestling Club. Perez won last year at 95 pounds in Div. II.
