For the past several years, the University of Maryland-Baltimore County has been building a wrestling culture and program through competition in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association.
With an eye on elevating the program to Division I status, UMBC is hosting a USA Wrestling Making A Difference Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 9.
Making a Difference Tournaments focus on supporting college wrestling with all the money raised going directly to help support college level programs. The series allows athletes to wrestle as USA Wrestling members for the tournament without buying a membership card.
At UMBC, divisions will be as follows: Ages 7 - 10: Youth; Ages 11 -14: Junior; Ages 15 - 18: Senior; Age 18 and older: Open. Registration will be limited to 275 wrestlers.
The tournament will also feature a free technique clinic by U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete Wynn Michalak, a three-time All-American and NCAA runner-up for Central Michigan.
For registration and tournament information, click here or contact Tournament Director Mike Hornzell, Asst. Coach UMBC Cell: 443-413-4253 or Email: Hornzel1@umbc.edu
