USA Wrestling has announced that two more men's freestyle athletes have been as wildcard selections for the 2010 World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa, June 11-12.

The following athletes who have applied for wildcard selections have been approved and have been added to the field in Council Bluffs:

66 kg/145.5 lbs. - Justin Pearch, Colorado Springs, Colo. (U.S. Army)
74 kg/163 lbs. - Adam Hall, Bonners Ferry, Idaho (Bronco WC)

This brings the total of wildcards to seven. On May 23, USA Wrestling announced the following wildcards were added to the field.

55 kg/121 lbs. - Mark McKnight, Pittsburgh, Pa. (Lehigh Valley WC)
66 kg/145.5 lbs. - Brent Metcalf, Iowa City, Iowa (New York AC)

84 kg/185 lbs. - Kirk Smith, Boise, Idaho (Bronco WC)

A bit about the two new wildcard selections follows:

- Pearch, 27, placed second in the 2010 Northeast Regionals and the 2010 Northern Plains Regionals. Pearch fell one match short of All-American status at the 2010 U.S. Open. He as a two-time NJCAA All-American competing for North Idaho College, and completed his college career at the Univ. of Oregon. He was a two-time state champion for Oregon City High School in Oregon.

- Hall, 22, was fourth in 2010 University World Team Trials and third in 2010 Northern Plains Regionals. He placed third at 157 pounds at the 2010 NCAA Championships as a junior at Boise State. He was a three-time Idaho state champion for Bonners Ferry High School and Junior Nationals freestyle champion.

Under the current procedures, the wildcard nominations by the National Freestyle Coach were reviewed and approved by a three-member sub-committee headed by the chairperson of the Freestyle Sport Committee. The sub-committee did not have to fill all 10 wildcard spots available, and were allowed to appoint multiple wildcards in a specific weight class if they chose to do so.

On May 23, the committee approved five wildcards, but placed a number of athletes on pending status. Pearch and Hall were approved, while others on pending status were not. There will be no more wildcard additions to the field this year.
