Indiana's Mitch Sliga moves one win from capturing USA Wrestling Cadet Triple Crown

FARGO, N.D. - Indiana's Mitch Sliga is down to his final match as he pursues a USA Wrestling Triple Crown in the Cadet division.

Sliga advanced to the Cadet Nationals freestyle finals at 189 pounds on Thursday at the FargoDome. He now needs a win over Minnesota's Adam Josephson in Friday afternoon's finals to complete the prestigious Triple Crown.

Sliga's performance highlighted Day 5 of the ASICS/Vaughan Junior and Cadet Nationals on Thursday at the FargoDome

Sliga already owns Cadet Nationals titles in Folkstyle and Greco-Roman this year, and is now looking to complete the hat trick with a championship in freestyle.

2009 Cadet Nationals freestyle champion Ben Whitford of Illinois (125) is back in the Cadet freestyle finals. He will face Mike Labry of Ohio for the title on Friday. Whitford won the Cadet Nationals Greco-Roman title on Monday.

The Cadet Nationals freestyle finals are set for 2 p.m. Friday in Fargo.

Washington's Tyler Coates (160), the Outstanding Wrestler in the Cadet Nationals Greco-Roman competition, advanced to the finals in freestyle. Coates pinned all seven Greco-Roman foes in the first period. He pinned his first six foes in freestyle before winning by decision.

Washington's Jordan Rogers also is looking for double titles in Fargo. He reached the 171 freestyle finals after winning the Cadet Greco-Roman title earlier this week.

Greco-Roman champions also looking a double with a freestyle title are Michigan's Jacob Schmitt (105), Iowa's Jack Hathaway (112), Michigan's Adam Coon (215) and Pennsylvania's Brooks Black (285).

Zane Richards of Illinois (130) fell just short in his bid for the Triple Crown in Cadets. Richards will wrestle for third place on Friday.

The Junior Nationals freestyle competition resumes at 9:30 a.m. Friday. The Junior finals are scheduled for Saturday.

The Junior Nationals women's freestyle competition starts at 9:30 a.m. Friday. The women's finals are set for Saturday morning.
