The National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) have established a first-of-its-kind wrestling event that comes to the Dallas area this weekend.
The American Airlines All-Star Challenge is a dual match between the NCWA and NAIA 2009 national champions and/or this season's top-ranked wrestlers from each association. The American Airlines All-Star Challenge is held in conjunction with the Lone Star Duals, and will close the two-day tournament at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Warrior Coliseum in Grand Prairie, Texas.
The American Airlines All-Star Challenge follows a full day of collegiate wrestling at the Lone Star Duals, which annually hosts some of the top college programs in the nation. Oklahoma, currently ranked No. 10 in the nation by Intermatwrestle.com, No. 15 Arizona State, Northwestern, Brown, Harvard and the Air Force Academy are among the NCAA Division I universities competing in duals during the day, along with NCAA Division II stalwarts Nebraska-Kearney (tied for No. 3 nationally) and Central Oklahoma (also tied for No. 3). NCWA programs UT-Arlington and Texas A&M will also compete.
The Lone Star Duals will also have a two-day high school tournament running concurrently with the collegiate duals featuring a host of Texas' top high school programs. Nationally-ranked Bishop Lynch from Dallas and five prominent out-of-state teams are among the 24-team field. The high school championship matches will lead into the American Airlines All-Star Challenge.
Local television will broadcast the All-Star Challenge live, and it will also be streamed live across the internet.
