Michigan's Rodriguez named OW after winning FILA Cadet Nationals freestyle title

AKRON, Ohio "" Freddie Rodriguez will haul his share of hardware back home to Michigan.
Rodriguez became a double FILA Cadet Nationals champion after winning the freestyle competition on Sunday at the University of Akron.
Rodriguez won the FILA Cadet Nationals in Greco-Roman on Friday. He was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler.
Rodriguez downed Jered Cortez of Illinois 0-1, 4-0, 4-1 to win the title at 50 kg/110.25 lbs.
Joining Rodriguez as double champions in FILA Cadets were Tanner Hall of Idaho and Brooks Black of New Jersey.
Indiana's Jason Tsirtsis repeated as champion after winning a freestyle crown here in 2009.
In certain weight classes, the FILA Cadet National Championships is also a U.S. qualifying event for freestyle for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
The Youth Olympic Games is a brand-new event hosted by the International Olympic Committee. It will be held in Singapore from August 14-26, 2010 and will bring together 3,600 young athletes to compete for medals in 26 sports. Athletes from all 205 nations who compete in the Olympics are eligible to try out for the Youth Olympic Games.
Competing in the FILA Cadet Nationals is the first step in making the U.S. team for the Youth Olympic Games. The champions must also compete in a Pan American Qualifier in Mexico to qualify for Singapore.
The freestyle weight classes which are YOG qualifiers are the following:
