Herbert qualifies for World finals at 84 kg; Dlagnev to wrestle for bronze at 120 kg

HERNING, Denmark - The longer the match goes the stronger Jake Herbert becomes.
Just ask the four opponents that Herbert knocked off Tuesday during a magical run at the World Championships.
Herbert showed tremendous heart, poise and composure in fighting past four strong opponents. Now he's one win away from winning his first World gold medal.
Herbert pulled out four straight third-period wins in freestyle at 84 kg/185 lbs. on Tuesday afternoon at the MesseCenter in Herning.
Herbert outlasted Junior World champion Abdusalam Gadisov of Russia 0-4, 2-2, 1-0. Herbert shot in with just under a minute left in the third period. Gadisov countered and Herbert eventually finished by going behind the Russian for a takedown with 45 seconds left.
Herbert then held off Gadisov in the closing seconds to earn the win.
A small, but very vocal crowd of U.S. fans cheered and waved the American flag as Herbert pulled out a huge win.
He now will battle Ibragim Aldatov of Ukraine in the finals. Aldatov won a World silver medal in 2007 at 74 kg/163 lbs.
It's been a memorable year for Herbert, who capped his college career by winning the Hodge Trophy as the nation's top wrestler.
Teammate Tervel Dlagnev of the U.S. will wrestle for a bronze medal at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Dlagnev fell 1-0, 1-0 to Iran's Fardin Masoumi in the semifinals. Both periods went to the leg clinch. Masoumi placed fifth in the Olympics, and had beaten Dlagnev earlier this year in the Takhti Cup in Iran.
Dlagnev will now await the winner of the Repechage matches to see who he faces in the match for bronze.
U.S. wrestler Shawn Bunch was caught and pinned in his first-round bout with past World silver medalist Anatoly Guidea of Bulgaria. The match was tied 1-1 late in the first period when Bunch had a front headlock. Bunch appeared to slip off Guidea and was caught on his back for a quick fall.
Guidea failed to reach the finals, knocking Bunch out of his first World Championships.
Day 3 of the seven-day tournament will see three more U.S. wrestlers take the mat. Dustin Schlatter (74 kg/163 lbs.) will compete in freestyle while the women's freestyle tournament starts with Clarissa Chun (48 kg/105.5 lbs.) and Jessica Medina (51 kg/112.25 lbs.) ready to go.
Chun won a World title in 2008.
