Frayer halts Caldwell's run at World Team Trials, moves into finals

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - The last time Jared Frayer made the finals of the U.S. World Team Trials the guy who beat him went on to win a World title.
Frayer hopes to be that guy this time around.
The 30-year-old Frayer advanced to the finals of the Trials at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. by winning a highly competitive Challenge Tournament in freestyle wrestling on Sunday afternoon at the Mid-America Center.
Frayer now advances to face U.S. Nationals champion Trent Paulson, who is wrestling in his hometown, in the best-of-3 final round series. Frayer outlasted surprise Challenge Tournament finalist Darrion Caldwell to earn a shot at Paulson.
"I didn't have any fear out there. (Caldwell) is a good wrestler, but someone had to stop him," Frayer said. "I had to take care of business and move on. I expected to be in this position. Now I need to win two matches."
Frayer, now an assistant coach at the University of Iowa, will be shooting for a trip to Herning, Denmark in September for the World Championships.
Frayer is 0-2 in his career against Paulson, whose twin brother Travis was upset in the finals at 74 kg/163 lbs. on Saturday night.
Caldwell, a 2009 NCAA champion from North Carolina State, started the day with an upset win over 2008 Olympian and 2007 World Team member Doug Schwab. He followed by beating past Arizona State standout Brian Stith.
Caldwell was competing in freestyle for the first time since 2006.
The second and final day of the U.S. World Team Trials concludes Sunday night. The final 10 spots on the World Team will be decided. The other 11 spots were decided on Saturday night.
