2004 Olympic bronze medalist Patricia Miranda will be tough competition for women in this weight class. Miranda has three World medals under her belt and claimed the 2009 National title. She also won the Dave Schultz Memorial International this year. Miranda was second to Clarissa Chun at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, but has returned at the weight class where she won her last World bronze medal.

Katherine Fulp-Allen, a 2008 World University champion, was the runner-up at the U.S. Nationals this year. She will be a threat to Miranda for the World Team spot if she makes it to the best-of-3 finals for a rematch. Fulp-Allen won the WCWA National title and was named Wrestler of the Year at the college level this year.

Placing third at the U.S. Nationals was Alyssa Lampe, who was also the 2009 Pan American champion. She was a 2007 and 2008 Junior World bronze medalist. Lampe may compete at the 48 kg/105.5 lbs. weight class. The 2008 U.S. Nationals champion Jessica Medina placed fourth at the U.S. Nationals this year. She was a 2007 University National champion also, and will be a possible finalist.

College wrestlers LeAnn Barney, Gabrielle Henry and Emily Martin will be challengers in this weight class. Barney was the runner-up at the WCWA Nationals, Henry claimed the University National title, and Martin won the University Nationals silver medal this year. Shannon Reeves, who placed seventh at Nationals, will also be a contender for the top spot.

High School athlete Shauna Isbell placed sixth at the U.S. Nationals and won the USA Wrestling High School Folkstyle Nationals this year. Emily Harper joined the field as the Northern Plains Regionals Trials champion this year.

A late addition to the field was veteran Stephanie Murata, a 2001 World silver medalist who has competed in eight World Championships. Murata, 38, last made a World Team in 2007 and has not competed yet this year. However, her skills and experience will make her a strong threat, especially if she comes into the event in top form.
