ST. LOUIS - USA Wrestling's Gary Abbott has emerged as the expert among the journalists who made predictions for the NCAA Championships.
Abbott edged 2008 winner Andy Hamilton of the Iowa City Press-Citizen for the title.
Abbott had the correct champions with Cornell's Troy, Nickerson, Michigan State's Franklin Gomez, Nebraska's Jordan Burroughs, Michigan's Steve Luke, Northwestern's Jake Herbert and Iowa State's Jake Varner. He also had the correct runner-up finishers with Edinboro's Paul Donahoe along with Ohio State's Reece Humphrey and Mike Pucillo. He also had Iowa winning the team title.
Hamilton correctly picked champions in Nickerson, Burroughs, Luke, Herbert and Varner. He also had Iowa winning the team title and picked runner-up finishes for Edinboro's Paul Donahoe, Illinois' Mike Poeta and Wisconsin's Andrew Howe. Hamilton had correct runner-up finishers with Donahoe, Illinois' Mike Poeta and Howe.
A group of 14 of the nation's top journalists participated in the contest.
